Hong Kong Tropical Cyclone Update

There are currently two Typhoons hovering around the Philippines. Thankfully they are not forecast to approach Hong Kong. Severe Tropical Storm Chan-hom may raise a T1 alert on Thursday the 7th of May, however Hong Kong will feel no effects from the storm. Below is the forecast as described on the Hong Kong Observatory website:

At noon, Severe Tropical Storm Chan-hom was centred about 300 kilometres northwest of Nansha. It is forecast to move north-northeast at about 12 kilometres per hour across the central part of the South China Sea.

Mother’s Day Delights in Hong Kong

It’s that time of the year again (yes already!) - time to spoil your mother rotten. In this article I bring you 5 things to do in Hong Kong (from my point of view) that your Mother will no doubt enjoy. Mother’s Day is on Sunday, the 10th of May 2009.

  1. Topping the charts (of course) is a romantic junk boat dinner cruise on Hong Kong harbour (or wherever else you may wish to go). Send your Mum and Dad out on a romantic dinner cruise, or take the whole family along. Hong Kong Harbour offers breathtaking views and is an opportunity not to be missed. The weather is perfect for it!
  2. Chow down on some seafood on Lamma Island or Poi Toi Island after a relaxing Junk Boat Cruise from Hong Kong (or any of our other selected pick-up points). We will transport you to and from the island in style.
  3. Go WILD!!! Take your Mother on a wild Seafari 500HP ride on the seas of Hong Kong. Seafari will knock your socks off… Visit the Seafari website for more information.
  4. Take a relaxing walk around the peak. The first section of Hong Kong Trail stage 1 offers fantastic views of Hong Kong as well as detailed information about the trees, flowers and animals found in the area. Check out the beginning of this hike at Hiking Hong Kong - Hong Kong Trail Stage 1. Here is a map on Google Maps where I have marked out this Hong Kong Peak Hike for you. Basically make your way to the peak on the peak tram, take Luggard rd once at the top, at Hatton Road you will find a large park complete with playground facilities for the kids- why not prepare a picnic at the halfway point where there is a lovely park to relax. Then take Harlech Road back to the peak. There is nothing like doing something different.
  5. How about a picnic at Inspiration Lake by Disneyland? There is no entrance fee, however you may decide to hire a bike or a paddle boat. This lovely lake offers green grass perfect for a picnic. There is a convenience store right next to the lake for purchase of drinks and snacks. Take some picnic food, a frisbee, a ball, the family … and chill out.
